About The Campaign

The New Mexico Museum of Art Centennial Campaign honors the 100th anniversary of New Mexico’s flagship art museum. The Foundation’s campaign efforts are driven by a dedicated group of volunteer community leaders. Their $10 million goal in private sector investments will be utilized in the following ways:

  • $8.7 million to adequately upgrade and equip the Halpin Building with spacious exhibition galleries, collections storage, educational facilities and comfortable public spaces that transform the building into an inviting 21st-century contemporary art annex.
  • $300,000 to fund exhibitions development and free educational outreach programs that are critical to engaging the community and supporting the New Mexico Museum of Art during its Centennial Anniversary year and during the three-year campaign period.
  • $1 million to restore and expand the Foundation-owned Eugenie Shonnard house on Paseo de Peralta, which will become the permanent Foundation headquarters. This enables the Foundation to vacate the historic Hewett House next door to the New Mexico Museum of Art, facilitating its return to the museum and providing an additional 5,000 square feet of space for downtown museum operations and public outreach activities.

The project addresses challenges impacting the museum’s ability to adequately exhibit and care for its collections and serve the community. As the state invests $1.5 million to preserve and upgrade the museum’s landmark 1917 building, the campaign enables expansion to a satellite museum—a contemporary art space in the Halpin Building in the Santa Fe Railyard Arts District. This innovative “One Museum, Two Locations” initiative grows the institution’s exhibition and collections capacity while enhancing funding for exhibitions, public education programs, and community collaborations. New Mexico’s cultural tourism industry benefits with job growth and business opportunities.
